It is with sadness that I announce the death of our UPLI President Benjamin R. Yuzon on October 8, 2013, at about 9:30 p.m., after a long bout with cancer. UPLI Executive VP Dr. Wanda Rider and UPLI member Marie Palazzolo were with President Yuzon and his family at the time of his passing. UPLI will always be indebted to President Ben for all he did over his many years a the guiding force of UPLI. After his passing, it was announced that President Ben’s younger brother, Virgilio A. Yuzon of Manila, Philippines, accepted Ben's nomination to become the next UPLI president. Through email, the board was notified and enthusiastically voted for his acceptance. Virgilio, or Gil (Heel) as he likes to be called, is president-elect. He will be installed during the Congress in Osaka in March, 2014. We hope you will all be there to welcome him.

Approximately every two years, a World Congress of Poets is held, organized and run by a president who has been elected by the UPLI Board of Directors and approved by the members and delegates attending the Congress from which they were nominated. During our Congresses, poets from around the world come together in friendship and celebration to hear each other’s poems, listen to scholarly papers presented about poetry, and to bestow honors for poetry, including certificates, medals and the much coveted golden laurel crowns.
