A fuzzy caterpillar caught my eye.
She tried to make her way to willow tree
where she would slowly change to butterfly
with golden, ebony mosaic wings.
Then as this insect inched her way on by,
she paused for just one moment on her quest
as though she reassessed the reason why.
A fuzzy caterpillar caught my eye,
returned again to have another try.
She answered rightly to her species’ test.
She learned she’d have to crawl before she’d fly.
It was a daily lesson that life brings.
She tried to make her way to willow tree
with new determination running high.
A fuzzy caterpillar caught my eye.
