On The Level

by Rex Valentine (USA)

Much of this world teeters on a slope.

We notice and practice a level with hope

that we can be open and balanced in mind,

preserved by our efforts to see, plan and find.

This world is not perfectly shaped for our time.

Nor is this report of its features, in rhyme,

but we build and shapen as given to us,

and open our psyche to truth without fuss.

The world that we live in, a wonder to see,

affects us with every unusual tree,

with imperfect views of a woman or man

of natures wild efforts to thwart a good plan.

We notice restrictions that cling to our minds,

making it harder to frame new designs.

We look for that project, one easy to fix,

but seldom can find or, extract from the mix,

that new way of thinking, on line with a bevel,

that ends up supporting our thoughts “on the level.”
