LONGING

by Maria Remedios “Dette” Kaplan-Brown

Words are sweet.
They satisfy the mind
That begs for answers
That demands reassurance
And seeks to discover.

But the body longs for its own validation.
Where is the touch that will quiet the nights?
The kiss that will still the restless days?
Or the sweet release that puts this furious
desire to rest?

Let you and me this distance dissipate.
Make daily fare of being flesh to flesh
Soul to soul
So mind and body both
Can claim their share
And love can breathe a sigh complete.
