A SUBSTANTIAL SHADOW

by Ramakanta Das

Often I am haunted
by the reflection
of a lonely face dwarfed
by a substantial shadow,
that has diminished the imagery
with its impervious dimension.

No one can proclaim as I do
to have measured
the once-dwarf-shadow,
gaining an immeasurable height
never seen before.

Even when, you are by my side,
I tip-toe far into the highway
and get drenched to the core
into the visible nothingness
of a cluster of barren clouds.

I know not why,
of late I seem to be in a conflict whether
to ask my mother for a reassurance,
who on long frosty-nights
takes an extra cup of tea
to keep herself warm.
