AT THE BEACH

Dr. Teresinka Pereira

A great star crossed
the night and fell
into the cold city.

On the dry and empty beach
I dream at the mercy of the wind
and the cold weather.

Once I used to be
an unconcerned mermaid
and lived swimming the oceans,
where forests of wild fishes
grew up like secrets,
images that remained invisible
with their beauty and splendor.

Now, I am nothing
but the dream of someone
who calls from the city
like a ghost of water,
sand and words,
sea and fear, shadows,
and a few rays of the moonlight,
without a real desire to change
my sad and only destination
on this land.
