AFTERMATH

by Ian Hale

Search the pasts and present closely
Measure minutes carefully,
Because time is stalking slowly
Surging then inching intently forward
Muffled and certain – a bolt mid flight
Clanging, clinging caverns echo,
Running waters,
Gouge rifts through volcanic rock
Tongues of frogs and quick-move lizards
Strange birds with waiflike feathers
Bees,
Fly and lately die together.
