GARDEN REFLECTION

by Allegra Jostad Silberstein

Considerations of everything
are beyond me—I only know
that dahlias bloom in my garden:
the bulb gives birth to blossoms,

that sunflowers light the roadside
from the scatter of last year’s seeds,

that when flowers die
the helix in the seed,
in the root, in the bulb
will come to life again.

And I know with delight of tongue
and eye the blessing of my fig tree
That blossoms within the fruit.
