THE SHADES

by Alexander Chang

The sacred sun has only one well chosen blushing bride
Concubine is unknown in its glorious eye
Smelled no seduction nor heard adultery, if it be virtue to the old tune
Even the lavish stars, the faithful moon
Brush off the chastity of Dayak woman
Yet shy not under the gaze of strange man
In dithering, that graces the desired colours of petals of bathing roses
Swim in an innocent spring unconcerned to juxtapose
