I WOULD BE THINE

by Eva Tabaosares Kohr

I would be thine!
If not to learn the anguish,
Of being first a goddess worshipped.
Then, when the passion is passed,
Only to languish.
Stripped of each grace,
As fancy vanished.
For such a lot, I crave not.

I would be thine!
Not just in brilliant summer weather.
A sunny season of joy to breathe.
But fear and tremble,
When the storm-clouds gather.
And shrink to tempest's blows beneath.
Failing when needed the most.

I would be thine!
Not passion's wild emotions,
Fitful as the changing wind.
But with a still, deep,
Fervent life devotion.
To be with thee,
The soulmate God designed.
For this, I would be thine!
