(Asean Sonnet)

by Bridget Eu Yoke Lin

When language at the airport posed a strain
He came to our aid and that made our day
When at the market, it was pouring rain
He handed umbrellas, kindness again
At the busy station, he showed the way

Help at the ticket machine with his dime
That journey landed at the Holy Shrine
Where we were, a courtesy bow each time
Sign language was helpful, time after time
Gestures of Brotherhood shown, all was fine

Smiles then united, together we stood
At World Congress of Poets, poetry was peace
This language of cultures all understood
True Spirit of Brotherhood, Love and Peace
