the coolness …..
the special coolness
of this mountain stream
as I dip my feet
in the water
suddenly makes me think
of those rustic, robust forefathers
of ours
who must have squatted here
ages and ages ago
right on this stone
to scoop up the water
in the cup of their palms
or bathed in this stream
washing away their dirt and sweat
after long hard work
in the fields or woods or hills
on this small remote island
in the middle of the heaving sea ....
