SAVAGE GIFTS IN A GHOST NIGHT

Fake news, fake moves, bombard us
Fringed by pristine lawns, money and mascara
The past is lies, the present stares
The future looks pretty grim

The abandonment of personal responsibility
By electing officials to govern our community
Must always end in the loss of liberty
Followed by the rule of fresh- skinned sheep

Sheep that are later revealed to be
The blood-crazed tyrant
Who was planted in your child’s eye
Before they could even read
Straight from the TV screen

IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE:

Finally, when all philosophies and debates
Had had their say and each their day
The men of sciences and of business
Were left both mute and pale

It was decreed
That they should be-
as faithful servants unto their cats
As it was, in days long passed

By so doing all was made whole again
The Earth let out a long sigh and breathed
The flowers sang
Women laughed out loud
Volcanoes shrank
Trees bloomed;
And brought forth many fruits
Smiles were seen once more
On the blanked-out faces across the land

Birds took flight,
By both day and night
Streams thrilled, clean and clear
Brightly colored fish swam and danced around
And the world was forever healed

PEARL AT PLAY

“You have plenty of eating water, brightness”
Toying, bouncing, pouncing
A flick-through pass
360 pirouettes on a single paw

Gravel clouds fly up
A multi-colour mist of motion
Leapt for the post
Neck arched back
The Cat

Whao-ooh!
It’s not football though
One less mouse in all the world-
Oh well
Your Pearly Sweetness

BETWEEN THE LINES:

Search for the beat
Between the lines, a
Silver thread that maybe
Maple leaves connect
Tarmac whispers secret words
Of tire tracks and gasoline
To find a dime
Or the note from James Dean

IDENTITY PARADES

The Father, the son, the brother
The husband, friend or lover
An architect or emergency worker
Bricklayer, tiller, cashier or farmer

The volunteers and visitors
Those who make the small donations
The tireless employee with good intentions
Black Friday shopper or weekend driver
He reads the papers, then views the news
Paints the house, repairs the fence

The loud lad at the pub with his mates…
Or the quiet old boy at the bar with his halves
A man who loves to swim in the creek
Or the peace of the forest be more pleasing to he

The face in the mirror through the shaving foam
Much like his Father, now almost his own
Planning his moves in a hotel room,
We play many roles, outside and at home
